Heritage Restoration Project 2010

In 1956 fire struck the Newmarket Era Office, at that time adjacent to the Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home. The Era Office was torn down at this time, as was the 3rd story Tudor-style roof of the funeral home, due to the extensive damage.

This roof and the large gable window on the 2nd story were significant features characteristic of the Tudor style of architecture. These features were found on other funeral homes in Ontario, built or re-modeled during the 1920's & 1930's.

In 2010 the decision was made to re-create the original Tudor roof and gable window. Architectural drawings were based on old photographs and illustrations to ensure the dimensions were historically accurate.
The following pictures outline the construction phases of the roof project. The construction took place behind the funeral home and when completed, the roof will be lifted onto the top of the building by crane.
