Condolence From: Dave and Jan Cass and Family
Condolence: Our condolences go out to the family.
We have known "Skip" for over 30 years as both my wife and I were leaders at various stages and all three of my boys went through Scouting at First Newmarket with Jim. My oldest son, Michael, went to England in 1989 with Jim on a Scouting trip and also achieved his Chief Scout award largely due to Jim wanting his scouts to always strive to better themselves and those around them. I remember the fun and hard work endured over many weekends tied up with Apple Day and other fund raising events.
Jim, you will be sorely missed.

Condolence: I did not know Jim very well. I first met him when my son joined scouting in 2015. I remember they had a outdoor adventure at the museum and Jim was there showing the Beavers around. I found him very knowledgeable and inspiring. You can tell he loved and respected what he did. Rest in Piece Jim

Condolence: I have just sadly heard about Jimmy's passing. In 1955 when I was in Grade one at St.John's School I enthusiastically signed up to join the First Wolf Cub pack at the old scout hall by the arena. There I first met Jim. For the next nine years he was my cub and scout master.
Right from the beginning he instilled in me and my fellow wolf cubs the values which still direct me.
Looking back, I remember the uniformed parades for Veterans Day, Remembrance Day, Jamborees and camping trips, and summer camps and of course the annual boy scout apple days. There was Jim leading us. One day I was the top fundraiser for the annual Boy Scout apple day and received first prize: a window decal.
My parents wasted no time in adhering it to our front verandah window at 330 Millard Avenue where I hope it still is.
We have lived out of the province for forty years but recently I attended a Newmarket Historical Society Christmas banquet and to my delight there was Jimmy. We had a wonderful visit! He wondered if the sign was still on the verandah as he would often look for it. I said I hope so but there are new owners in the home.
The sign read "A WOLF CUB LIVES HERE."
And so Jim: fare thee well.
"WE'LL DO OUR BEST"
AKALA
Sincerely,
Buddy West

Condolence: Jim opened his home to me so many years ago and I still remember his kindness today. I drive through Newmarket every so often and passing by that house holds great memories for me. His passing leaves a void that will be tough to fill for Newmarket, and for family. He was a kind man who gave, and he asked for nothing in return but respect and kindness for others.

Condolence: Jim was a true Scout. As Lord Baden Powell said "Try to leave the world a little better than you found it, and when you turn comes to die, you can die happy in feeling in that any rate you have not wasted your time but have done your best." Jimmy, you have done your best and we have benefited from your example. He lived the values that the Scouting and Guiding movement teach us, developing our & youth leadership skills, growing ourselves spiritually and participating within our communities.

I hope that he is now enjoying a campfire with our founders, Lord and Lady BP.

Go well and safely, Jim.

Condolence: My condolences to friends, family and fellow scouters. For Jim I think all three fall into the same category.
I had the privilege to meet Jim when he and I took wood badge II for pack together. It was probably one of the reasons that training was almost magical. I still have the wolf that Jim gave to everyone in his lair.
You could always depend on skip to say an inspirational blessing at the beginning of meetings. Jim was usually able to achieve what BP said - "We must change boys from a 'what can I get' to a 'what can I give' attitude", leading by example.

Ar dheas Dé go raibh a anam.

Rest in peace Skip
